The initial funding has come from GameAbove, but it’s the Provost’s office that approves and announces the faculty projects. GameAbove is not involved in choosing which projects get funding.

Over thirteen million dollars has been donated this school year to Eastern Michigan University from the group GameAbove, with an additional cumulative $500,000 donated to the Ypsilanti based organization Ozone House.

Privatization hasn’t been spoken about much this year, at least in public. The administration,
going from Housing and Residence Life staff all the way up to the Board of Regents, don’t even use the
term. Instead, they prefer the term “partnership.” That way, they can ensure that students and faculty at
EMU know that our University isn’t just receiving student and taxpayer money to sell out to private
companies (they are) but that they are simply trying to balance our budget. That’s all.

The Eastern Michigan University Dean of Students, Ellen Gold, presented during the student affairs meeting of the Board of Regents on Thursday, Oct. 24. She provided to the audience the objectives and abilities of her department in assisting students through barriers. According to Gold, the bottom line of her office is to create a culture of care "which acts as a kind of mantra.” The office aims to help walk students through situations that may act as a barrier a students academic carrier or when they may ask themselves the question, according to Gold, of "What do I do?"
