The Senior Capstone Exhibition, Preludes, currently on display at the Ford Gallery, displays the work of Eastern Michigan University’s B.F.A. candidates. Students of the capstone class created, organized and installed the showcase to highlight their work.

Steven Cole was elected as Student Government President, March 26, 2015. As his year in office comes to an end, he reflects back on how he moved forward with the platform he ran on.
Spring is here, which means it’s time for the Best Buddies Friendship Walk on Saturday, April 9. Best Buddies is an inter-collegiate program to create greater inclusion for those with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The Eastern Michigan University and University of Michigan chapters will be meeting at Gallup Park for a day-long outing.
Easter was Sunday, March 27, but the Student Center’s Food Court will be having a three-hour egg hunt, Monday, March 28, at 12:00 noon. Eggs will be hidden around the Student Center and the student with the most will get an unspecified prize.

Eastern Michigan University’s 2014 Marching Band was recently recognized at the College Band Directors National Association 2016 North Central Conference Marching Band Video Showcase. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, jails in the United States hold more people than any other country in the world. This fact is part of what led Lora Lempert to write her book “Women Doing Life.” Lempert is a qualitative researcher, feminist researcher and grounded theorist who focused on the lives of women serving life sentences. She presented her findings as part of the Women and Gender Studies Lecture Series.
Eastern Michigan University has built a new Center for Jewish Studies. Martin Shichtman has been the director of Jewish studies for six years at Eastern. There has been a Jewish studies minor since March 2012 and Shichtman has been trying to get the center up and running since then.
