As a student, faculty member, alumni or a family member of someone at Eastern Michigan University, you bring a lot to the table. You have experiences, knowledge and lessons that you have to offer to teach other people. Likewise, other people have their own lessons to teach you. TEDxEMU is an opportunity to create an environment to share these lessons.

Heart Month kicks off with wellness expo

Eastern Michigan University will kick off the American Heart Association’s National Heart Month with the Go Red Health and Wellness Expo from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Go Red VIP Luncheon from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the EMU Student Center Ballroom.

Program aims to show sexuality not concrete

Rap doesn’t fit with MLK’s ideals

What are the implications of the materialistic lyrics found in today’s hottest hip-hop hits? Eastern Michigan University student Ivory Harris Jr., one of the minds behind “Knowledge, Power, Respect: Hip-Hop Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” was eager to find out. After conducting a study in November 2011, Harris discovered that 48 out of 50 songs on the Billboard hip-hop and rhythm and blues charts glorified alcohol or substance abuse, crime and violence and other negative themes.

Around 75 student organizations gathered in the Eastern Michigan University Student Center ballroom Monday from 12-4 p.m. as a part of this week’s Winterfest activities.

When it comes to film, we all know if it’s released, it’s likely to be seen. All around the world millions of people go and watch movies everyday, whether it be in their homes or in the theater. Something people don’t always account for is how film itself has progressed over the years.



‘TRANS’ documentary receives positive reactions from viewers

“When someone says to me, ‘What is this film about?’ I say, ‘It’s about human rights, injustice and discrimination,’” Mark Schoen, producer of “TRANS,” said. “And what I’ve learned is the gender spectrum is much wider than I ever thought it was and you know it’s not just transgender. There’s intersex, there’s genderqueer. I think the important thing is that we have to, as a society, let people be their authentic selves, whatever that may be.”

Winterfest offers week of wintry activities

Last semester was tough. I know; I was there. In fact, last year was a total b— well, uh, let’s just say difficult. Good news, though: It’s a new year and a new semester and you have new classes and a whole new start.

Graduate school to host open house on Saturday

Eastern Michigan University will be holding an open house Saturday for the EMU Graduate School in the Student Center ballroom from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Undergrads, recent grads and community members will be able to explore more than 180 programs, including graduate degrees and certificates among the various master’s and doctoral programs.

Julez DeShetler and Queso Tone catch up after a short hiatus due to illness and someones birthday. The pair talk about their semesters and the final big events of the year, the Eastern Echo Media Gala and Rock The Patio. The latter playing host to Eagletainment's very own Queso Tone as a musical performance, with the shows closing act Anthony Roperti a former guest of the show.
