Ypsi Votes: Sheriff Jerry Clayton seeks fourth term focusing on mental health and diversion programs

Sheriff Jerry Clayton is seeking his fourth term as the top law enforcement official in Washtenaw County. He was first elected in 2008 and had previously served for 20 years in various positions within the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department, including as a corrections officer, a deputy sheriff, and command officer. He also served as the Washtenaw County Jail administrator.

Eagles football team offers running back Daveon Hunter

Daveon Hunter, who is a 3-star running back according to 247 Sports, was offered a scholarship from the Eastern Michigan football program on Monday, Nov. 11. The senior running back is 5’10” and 200 pounds. He attends Chandler High School in Arizona and is slated to graduate at the end of the current school year.

Rob Murphy discusses recently released book

Eastern Michigan men’s basketball head coach Rob Murphy, who just started his ninth season with the Eagles, released his first book over the summer. The book “DEEP” is Murphy’s lifelong story through his eyes. Murphy discusses growing up in Detroit, getting his “dream job” at Syracuse University, learning life lessons through basketball and much more.

Preston Hutchinson impresses in debut

Eastern Michigan was skeptical of their roster after filling the quarter-back position against Western Michigan Oct. 19. Mike Glass III, EMU’s starter and captain, was out with an injury. Preston Hutchinson, the backup, was forced into duty and started the Eagles crucial game against the Broncos at home.

Creighton's impact on the EMU football program

Chris Creighton was hired by Eastern Michigan before the 2014 season and after Ron English being fired the year prior. English was the Eagles head coach for four years before being fired nine games into his fifth campaign. English led them to just one six-win season, with a record of 11-46. Creighton has doubled that and is on the verge of adding another one this year.

Mickey Rewolinski announces commitment to Eagles

Mickey Rewolinski announced his commitment to the Eastern Michigan football team on Sunday, Sept. 22. Rewolinski is a 3-star offensive lineman and defensive end for Union Grove High School in Wisconsin. He is 6’6”, 260 pounds and is going to be an offensive lineman for the Eagles. Rewolinski announced his commitment via Twitter.

Rob Murphy has high hopes for Jalen King’s junior year

Jalen King, who is from Kings Academy in Pasco, Washington, is heading into his junior season with the Eastern Michigan basketball program. King is a 6-foot-10-inch power forward/center who weighs 205 pounds. With some fresh faces on the EMU men’s basketball team following the graduation of James Thompson IV, Paul Jackson and Elijah Minnie, King is poised to make an impact after a strong offseason.

Boubacar Toure is set to make an impact for the Eagles after major improvements

Eastern Michigan’s men’s basketball team has seen many additions to the program in recent years and Boubacar Toure has been one to standout amongst the rest. The Senegal native is a 7’0” center who made his way to EMU in 2018. Before his arrival to Eastern Michigan, Toure played collegiate basketball at Grand Canyon University. He started his career as a redshirt freshman during the 2015-16 season.

EMU wide receiver stays humble despite a strong start to his 2019 campaign

Just four games into his sophomore season, wide receiver Dylan Drummond leads all Eastern Michigan receivers with 19 receptions as the team finished their non-conference schedule with a 3-1 record. Drummond has become an essential part of the Eagles' offense, forming great chemistry with senior quarterback Mike Glass III but the wide receiver still isn't satisfied.

Quian Williams continues to make major impact in sophomore season

Playing in just four games as a redshirt freshman, wide receiver Quian Williams of Oklahoma City gained valuable playing experience with the Eagles but did not record any receptions. However, his sophomore season has gotten off to a very promising start. After the first two games of 2019, Williams has found himself in a position where he is one of quarterback Mike Glass III's favorite targets. Williams has already snagged eight passes for 92 total yards and his first career touchdown.
