Students showed off their skills Tuesday night in Buell Hall lounge for a “Beull’s Got Talent,” part of the resident hall’s theme week.
“Events like this are important because it lets residents get to know each other and meet new people,” sophomore and creative writing major Amy Oleynik said. “We meet RAs and advisors and other residents in the building.”
Students played instruments, sang songs, recited original poetry, danced and even screened original films.
“It was kind of fun and a little embarrassing,” said James Pink, simulation animation and gaming major and star of the judge’s choice original film. “But I want to do it again!”
There were six different awards, top three judge’s choice, who were voted on by three judges, one of whom was president Susan Martin, and top three people’s choice, who were voted on by the students in attendance.
“I did my act in a talent show my senior year,” winner of people’s choice Oleynik, who performed the ‘evolution of dance’ dance, said. “I was like ‘you know what? I still know how to do this and it sounds like fun!’”
The event not only brought students together, but gave them the opportunity to learn a little more about each other.
“My favorite part was seeing all the different talents Buell has,” Pink said.
Those who performed put part of themselves out there not just for prizes, but for the fun of it too.
“It was different then the other times I’ve performed,” Oleynik said. “I just wanted to go up there and have fun and that’s what I did.”
