Friday May 14

Bike to Work Day

Friday is a “bike to work day” for Washtenaw County. At 7:15 a.m., bicyclists will meet at Bombadill’s on Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti and bike to the Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market, where there will be a rally with coffee and food from Zingerman’s Deli. The Ann Arbor Bike Choir will also perform.

Saturday May 15

16th Annual Ypsilanti P.R.I.D.E Day

This yearly event, which first began in 1993, aims to clean up the community through picking up trash, painting buildings, planting flowers and other activities. According to the Web site, ypsipride.org, up to 1200 volunteers are expected to participate. After work is done, there will be a celebration in Parkridge Park with food, entertainment and awards.

Start! Heart Walk

The Washtenaw County Start! Heart Walk and 5K Fun Run will start at Washtenaw Community College 10:15 a.m. The festival grounds open at 9 a.m. Though it is free to participate in, walkers should ask others to sponsor them to raise money for the American Heart Association.

Steel Wheels conclude bike tour with show in Ypsilanti

Virginia band The Steel Wheels embarked on a tour completely by bicycle in Michigan on May 5. The tour concludes at 7p.m. Saturday with a show at Savoy in Ypsilanti. Tree Fort Bikes, an Ypsilanti business, is sponsoring the entire tour for the Americana band. For more information about the tour and the band, visit thesteelwheels.com.
