Consider comfort when choosing outfits

Whether you’re for it or against it, partying is a very common part of college life. Whether you’re going to Necto on Thursday, Fifth Quarter on Sunday or to the Kappa house during the week, certain factors should be taken into consideration when figuring out what to wear.

By now you’ve probably been to at least one party and gotten the feel for what’s suitable for certain parties, but if you haven’t you’re soon to find out. The same type of outfit isn’t going to be appropriate for all parties you attend. Some parties will have massive amounts of people cramped in small spaces while others will allow you room to move around and be noticed.

If you’re attending a house party thrown by a fraternity or sorority the most comfortable and appropriate attire would probably be jeans and a short sleeve shirt. These types of parties tend to get really crowded so the more basic the outfit the better.

Key pointers for crowded house parties:

• Don’t wear shoes you don’t want to get ruined (more than likely they will be).

• Don’t wear flip-flops, chances are high your feet will get stepped on or liquor will be spilled on you.

• Don’t wear jackets. With so many people in one place you’re going to get really hot, and there probably won’t be anywhere to hang it.
• Leave huge handbags and purses at home; small over-the-shoulder totes will do.

If being crowded and hot isn’t your idea of a party, there are plenty others to attend. Nightclubs are another place to have a good time, and you can dress up or down and feel more relaxed. Different clubs enforce certain dress codes for guys about gym shoes, hats and collared shirts. To play it safe ask about the dress code so you won’t get turned away at the door.

Guys are more basic, so jeans and a collared shirt is a nice look for the night. You can also put on a hat or add eyeglasses to make the look complete.

Girls, on the other hand, have a few more options. Basic club night attire can be a pair of jeans, a cute top and heels or flats. If you want to go with the glam look for the night then a skirt or a dress would definitely be appropriate. If you want to go for a more casual feel, pair your jeans or dresses/skirts with ballet flats, then you are dressed up but comfortable all at once.

When dressing for a night on the town having fun is the main focus. You don’t want to worry about your shoes hurting your feet all night, so try to find a pair of heels you can comfortably dance in. Since large purses aren’t always the most convenient, you might decide on a small clutch with just enough room to keep your ID, phone and money.

The way to ensure you look your best at any type of party is to wear what makes you feel comfortable and sexy. Whether you’re wearing jeans with gym shoes or a dress with heels, your attitude and confidence are what makes heads turn when you step into a room.
