Roundup: Men's basketball rolls in tuneup; Miami beats women swimmers

The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team got in its final tuneup before the start of regular season play on Friday by defeating Marygrove College 100-56 in its final exhibition game on Saturday.

The offense appeared ready to go. Sophomore center Matt Balkema and pre-season All Mid-American Conference pick Brandon Bowdry were just two of seven players to finish with double-digit points.

The Eagles’ defense got a tuneup as well.

The defense didn’t allow any points to Marygrove in the final seven minutes of the first half and were able to clean up the boards, out-rebounding them 47-32.

The Eagles open up regular-season play Friday in East Lansing against Michigan State University. MSU ranks No.2 in the preseason polls.

Eastern Michigan women’s swimming fell to 0-3 on the season, with its most recent loss to the Miami (Ohio) University Redhawks (1-3).
