Thanksgiving Eve has become the busiest bar night of the year, even busier than New Years Eve or Christmas Eve. Some college students decide to go home early and spend quality time with family before the big day, others go home to go bar-hopping with old high school friends who are in town. Then there are those of us college students who stay near campus until the last possible second and decide to party hard at local college bars.
Traditionally, Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks for the things we have in life and to promote quality family time. Thanksgiving started way back when the Pilgrims came to America and were able to stay alive due to food provided by the Native Americans.
Thanksgiving Eve is not like any other night at many bars, so keep that in mind when selecting a place to go.
According to manager, Lisa Brickley, the Tap Room will not be doing anything special Wednesday. She says she hopes there is a large turnout, but she doesn’t know what the night will bring, seeing this is only her second Thanksgiving Eve at the Tap Room.
As of Saturday night, Aubrey’s and Stick’s did not have anything special or different planned for the big night, but there could be something planned at the last minute. If you want to go there, hoping for something fun, call ahead of time and ask if there are any special guests, themes or prizes given away.
According to owner, George Tangalakais (Geo as everyone seems to call him) Theo’s Bar’s College Night will be starting 24 hours earlier. Instead of College Night being on Thursday, it will be on Wednesday. Everyone who comes in will get a free raffle ticket just for coming. If you win the raffle, you will receive a beer mirror from the bar wall you will be able to take home.
According to Tangalakais, his staff is extremely excited for Wednesday night and they are passing the word around by promoting it on Facebook as well as other social network sites. If you are planning on going to Theo’s get there early. Tangalakais said, in previous years the bar has filled up extremely fast.
If you feel like going all out on Wednesday, wearing daisy-dukes, getting that mullet back in style or wearing a wife beater, go to Pub-13, where they will be having their second annual “Thanksgiving Eve White Trash Bash.” There will be Beer Pong, Bologna Tossing, $1 PBR Cans until they run out, $2 Pub Moonshine shots and $3 Well Whiskey. The party starts at 4 p.m., but the top 40 music doesn’t start until 9p.m, When “The Glitz” starts spinning the top 40 mash-ups that end at 2 a.m. There is no cover, but you must be 21 years-old to join in the fun.
There are a lot of options for Thanksgiving Eve. If you are going back to your hometown, check out the bar scene there. If you aren’t feeling the bar scene or aren’t 21 years-old yet, get together at someone’s house and have a game night. You can also be more traditional and stay home with your family. Thanksgiving Eve is a modern take on spending quality time with those we usually don’t have time for.
