Array of films hit theaters

The Mechanic

Starring Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland; Directed by Simon West.

In Statham’s newest action offering, he stars as an assassin who takes on an apprentice, played by Foster, who happens to have a connection to one of his previous targets. While some might throw this film in with Statham’s other action films (when you’ve seen one Transporter…), this is certainly not West’s first time at the action film rodeo. With films like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Con Air under his belt, he’s found his niche and sometimes nothing is better than watching an expert at work.

The Rite

Starring Colin O’Donoghue, Anthony Hopkins, Ciarán Hinds; Directed by Mikael Håfström.

Yet another exorcism movie comes to your local cinema trying to live up to the hair-raising The Exorcist. But, with Hopkins, who is someone who won an Oscar for his portrayal of a serial killer when he only had a few minutes of screen time, on board as well as the director of 1408), this thriller chronicles an American seminary student who goes to an exorcism school at the Vatican, has the potential to outshine the other movies in this somewhat-overdone category.

Biutiful

Starring Javier Bardem; Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.

This Oscar-nominated film (Javier Bardem for Best Actor, Foreign Language Film) follows a family man who provides for his wife and child by reading the minds of the recently dead in Barcelona. This film-festival winner (Best Actor at Cannes) promises to be a good show for those who love Awards season and anyone out for a memorable time at the movies.

From Prada to Nada

Starring Camilla Belle, Alexa Vega, Kuno Becker; Directed by Angel Cracia.

Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility gets a face-lift when two sisters are left with nothing after their father’s death, forcing them into the home of their estranged aunt. This comedic film is about finding yourself and your family. This movie looks like a good bet for a first date, girls’ night out or some mother/daughter bonding time.
