Eagles vs. Seahawks in round 2 of WNIT

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team earned its way to the second round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament on Thursday by beating the University of Michigan 67-59 at the Convocation Center.

The Eagles are 23-12 and have the most wins in program history. After getting the first post-season win in program history outside of the Mid-American Conference, the team will hit the road to take on the University of North Carolina-Willimington. The game is scheduled to start at 7 tonight at Trask Coliseum. The Eagles will hold a viewing party at the Convocation Center in the main arena. Doors will open at 6:30, and admission is free.

Thursday, the Seahawks (24-8) defeated Richmond (63-54). Monday’s game will be the first meeting between the Eagles and Seahawks.

The Seahawks shoot 45.4 percent from the field, 34 percent from the perimeter and 66.5 from the free-throw line.

The Eagles are shooting 38.9 percent from the field, 29 percent from the three-point line and 67 percent from the free-throw line.

While UNC-Wilmington has the upperhand in offense, the Eagles have a better defense in this matchup with an average of 41 rebounds compared to the Seahawks’ 35.7 average. The Seahawks are 12-1 at home, but the Eagles are 8-4 on the road.

EMU will have its hands full trying to contain Brittany Blackwell, who averages 15.5 points and eight rebounds. The Seahawks have three other players that average at least 10 points: Martha White, Kristen Hanzer, and Alisha Andrews.
