Rowers resume, travel to Grand Rapids next

The rowing team is back in action after a couple of weeks off.

Eastern Michigan University went to the Indiana Invitational on March 27 where it faced a number of Big East and Big Ten teams.

The Eagles started their day off with the varsity race and took a quick lead, however, they were not able to hold on as Indiana took the win with a time of 6:28. The Eagles came in fourth place, turning in a time of 7:25.

Next up was the varsity four race where every team other than Notre Dame competed with one boat. Notre Dame’s A boat took first place with a time of 7:56 while the Eagles finished behind Purdue for fifth place with a time of 9:18.5.

In the third varsity eight, the Eagles took third place with a time of 7:55.8. But they were 13 seconds behind Purdue, which came in second and 31 seconds behind Notre Dame.

EMU closed out its day in the novice four race where the team went head-to-head with Purdue.

The Boilermakers came out on top with a time of 8:56 and the Eagles came in at 10:02.5.

The Eagles rowing team opened the spring season Sunday, March 6 at Lake Hartwell, S.C.

During the all-day contest the Eagles faced off with Clemson University as well as Northeastern University.

The Eagles came in third place in each of their three contests that day.

In their first eight competition the Eagles started off in the front, however, Clemson crept its way to the lead finishing at 6:54.10.

Northeastern followed behind with a time of 7:02.24 while the Eagles came in at 7:59.20.

In the second varsity eight race of the day the Eagles landed in third place with a time of 8:16.89 while Northeastern crossed in 7:09.98.

Clemson took first place again as it finished in 7:05.72.

To close out their day the Eagles took one last competition in the varsity four race.

The Eagles competed with one boat while Clemson and Northeastern each competed with multiple boats.

The Eagles came in third place in that race as well.

The Eagles will go to Grand Rapids on April 2nd for the Lubbers Cup Regatta.
