Ypsilanti’s Future Genies have come a long way since their beginnings in the fall of 2010.
From the early house shows playing in garages to the bigger shows at The Magic Stick and The Blind Pig, Future Genies have brought their dreamy rock and roll soundscapes to the masses.
That being said, it comes bittersweet that their July 6 CD release show at Woodruffs will be one of their last shows for awhile.
Vocalist/guitarist Thom Vogl moves to Japan this fall to study abroad, drummer Matt Torre will be off to Chicago, and bassist Joe Lucas will continue studying composition at the University of Michigan.
Their absence from the local music scene will no doubt be felt, but at least they’re leaving us with a newly-recorded, full-length CD.
Oh yeah, and it’s free.
The show not only features Future Genies, but also music from Ypsilanti’s Derby Mama and Leap Year, as well as Detroit’s Almost Free and Baby and the Knots.
Any fan of high-energy live performances, free CDs and beer should definitely not miss what looks to be one of Woodruffs finest shows of the summer.
Doors open at 8, music starts at 9. $5 cover. Don’t miss this!
