Fall shows ready to launch

It’s that time of year again. School is back in session, the weather’s getting colder, the leaves are changing and of course, the new fall lineup is premiering on TV. HBO’s “True Blood” might be over, and “Jersey Shore” will be ending soon, but with plenty of new material and old favorites, there’ll always be something to watch while procrastinating on your homework or cuddling up on the couch to avoid the cold nights.

New Shows:

“Hart of Dixie”
Premieres on CW, Sept. 26
Mondays at 9:00 p.m.

“ER” is gone, and so is “Scrubs,” so it’s about time to make way for a new medical show. “The OC”’s Rachel Bilson stars in “Hart of Dixie,” as Zoe Hart, a woman fresh out of medical school who can’t find a job in New York so she packs up her big town life to remote Bluebell, Alabama. A lighthearted drama full of quirk and culture clashes is sure to make a good addition to CW’s lineup of teen dramas.

“How to Be a Gentleman”
Premieres on CBS, Sept. 29
Thursdays at 8:30 p.m.

As “Entourage” comes to an end, Kevin Dillon has a new job all lined up as Bert Lansing on “How to Be a Gentleman.” Based on the novel by John Bridges, “It’s Always Sunny in Phladelphia”’s David Hornsby produces and stars in this comedy about an uptight writer and his free-spirited trainer. We’ll find out if these two hilarious supporting actors can carry a show all of their own.

_“Charlie’s Angels” _
Premieres on ABC, Sept. 22
Thursdays at 8:00 p.m.

Premiering on the 35th anniversary of the original series in the 1970’s, “Charlie’s Angels” is the latest installment of the empire. Starring Annie Ilonzeh, Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Ramon Rodriguez, this version is a bit different than other reboots. While the three women are still crime solvers for the mysterious Charlie, creator Alfred Gough has expressed that he is avoiding anything campy or retro.

“Pan Am”
Premieres on ABC, Sept. 25
Sundays at 10:00 p.m.

Speaking of retro, a couple of new period dramas are starting this fall. “Pan Am” stars Christina Ricci as a stewardess for Pan American World Airways in 1963, when being a flight attendant was considered one of the most glamorous careers. From “ER’s” writer Jack Orman and “The West Wing’s” director Thomas Schlamme “Pan Am” has quite the resume to back it up.

“The Playboy Club”
Premieres on NBC, Sept. 19
Mondays at 10:00 p.m.
Before the first thought to pop into a person’s head when they heard the word “Playboy” was bleach blonde hair and D-cups, there was The Playboy Club. Set in 1963, “The Playboy Club” takes place in Chicago’s exclusive bar owned by Hugh Hefner and run by the “Bunnies.” Starring Amber Heard and Eddie Cibrian, this show has already sparked controversy, making the public even more anxious to check it out for themselves.

Returning Favorites:

“Saturday Night Live”
Premieres on NBC, Sept. 24
Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.

After thirty-six years and still going strong, “Saturday Night Live’s” thirty-seventh season premiers with Alec Baldwin in his sixteenth time hosting, and Radiohead as the night’s musical guest. Everyone is wondering what The Lonely Island has in store this season.

“Two and a Half Men”
Premieres on CBS, Sept. 19
Mondays at 9:00 p.m.

Goodbye, Charlie. “Two and a Half Men” starts its ninth season mourning the death of Charlie Harper with Ashton Kutcher as a new addition to the show as a brokenhearted internet billionaire. Premiering on the same day as Comedy Central’s “Roast of Charlie Sheen,” viewers will be flipping their channels back and forth to see who’s really “winning” here.
