Kitchen 101: Butterbeer Latte

Fresh take on a fan favorite

For any Harry Potter fan, autumn just isn’t autumn unless we’re cupping a huge mug of butterbeer while watching the leaves fall.

For people who aren’t fans of “the boy who lived,” autumn just isn’t autumn without a healthy helping of booze to warm the heart and spirits. This delicious recipe, inspired by the famous drink from the Harry Potter series, satisfies on both accounts.

Butterbeer is a perfect addition to the repertoire of a chilly autumn evening, themed Halloween party or even as a virgin drink to take with you on the go. You can serve this to your bourgeois friends and watch their faces drop when you reveal the source of inspiration.

My favorite way to enjoy this beverage is with a big slice of apple pie á la mode.

However you employ this versatile and utterly delicious drink, enjoy it responsibility.

Ingredients:

2 tablespoon of butter

2 tablespoon of brown sugar (tightly packed)

9 ounces of whole milk (vanilla soy milk is a healthy substitute)

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg

2 shots of bourbon (whiskey is an acceptable substitute)

Procedure:

1. Warm the butter, brown sugar, milk, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg in a small sauce pan. Remove from heat before it boils.

2. Add Bourbon

3. Top with whipped cream and cinnamon
