Top 10 horror movies of all time

People look all over for thrills. Some use sources of enjoyment, like cooking and writing, others use forms of adventure like bungee jumping, white water rafting, and race car driving. But around Halloween people use scary movies to give them a thrill.

What is your favorite scary movie? Better yet, which scary movie villain is the scariest of them all? With the help of a few scary movie fans, we’ve compiled a list of the top 10 scary movie villains. These villains were picked based off their victims’ body count, their supernatural abilities, and just plain being scary! Which one do you think is the scariest?

#10- The Fisherman (I Know What You Did Last Summer):
Fish, anyone? This villain was hit by a car driven by four teenagers celebrating after a beauty pageant. Terrified, they dump the stranger’s body into a nearby body of water to conceal their crime. Unfortunately for them, he survives. He then tracks down the teens and exacts his revenge with the sharp end of a rusty fish hook. You never know where he’ll be, but one thing is certain, if you see him, it’s already too late.

#9- Ghostface (Scream):
“What’s your favorite scary movie?” If you live in Woodsboro and get a phone call like this, you are on Ghostface’s list. Wearing a long, white ghost face mask with a screaming expression and long black hood, this killer uses a hunting knife and prank phone calls to antagonize teenagers in Woodsboro. The face behind the mask usually changes with every movie, but the thing that lands this serial killer on the list is no matter the reasons behind the killings (from peer pressure to revenge on Sidney), you might think you’ve killed one killer when another pops up in place behind the infamous ghost face mask.

#8-Candyman (Candyman):
According to urban legend, anyone who stares into a mirror and says “Candyman” five times, summons the villain. He was a former slave and artist who fell in love with a white woman.
After it is found she is pregnant, Candyman is chased through the plantation, and caught.
His tormentors cut off his drawing hand and smear him with honey, before bees sting him to death. The act of summoning him before a mirror usually results in the individual’s death, so think twice before you test out this legend!

#7-Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre):
Hitchhikers and lost folks might get “they don’t really take to strangers” as a warning to stay far away from the family with abandoned cars in their yard and scattered teeth on their porch. Set in a town in Texas and known as Bubba by his family members, Leatherface is one a cannibal who finds people coming too close to his town and his home. He uses a chainsaw and different body parts from his victims to mask his face. Anyone who is human and comes too close to the abandoned-looking house is a target to this character and his family members.

#6-Jigsaw (Saw):
Be careful how you treat your life, you never know who is watching! Jigsaw, also known as John Kramer, was suffering from a severe frontal lobe tumor. After a failed suicide attempt, Kramer begins to see the value of life and seeks to increase others’ value in life as well. Jigsaw’s victims range from doctors to prostitutes, all usually having some kind of moral flaw, with puzzles that offering either the way of death or life through intense pain and torture as self-sacrifice.

#5- Chucky (Child’s Play):
The real killer, who is Charles Lee Ray (first introduced in Child’s Play), uses voodoo to possess the “Good Guy” dolls after his own body is fatally wounded in a police chase. He is given as a toy to a child named Andy, who soon finds out the real identity of the doll. Chucky uses many different weapons to kill his victims, ranging from a ruler to a gun, but normally uses a knife. Chucky has no set of targets; everyone who gets in his way or comes across him is fair game. The hardest thing is trying to convince others he is real!

#4- Pinhead (Hellraiser):
Before he was Pinhead, he was Captain Eliot Spencer, named the leader of the demon group ‘the Cenobites’ by opening the Lament Configuration Box in 1921. Using chains to tear his victims apart, Pinhead and the Cenobites come after anyone who comes in contact with the box and is able to solve it and open it, luring them back to the realm of Hell they were summoned from and inflicting all kinds of pain on their victims.

#3- Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th):
Jason Voorhees was born on June 13, 1946 (a Friday) to his mother, Pamela Voorhees, who was a cook at Camp Crystal Lake. After drowning due to negligence of counselors who were supposed to be watching the kids, both Voorhees kill to make sure the camp never reopens. Camp Crystal Lake is his main stomping grounds, although he makes a brief visit to Elm Street and kills some of the kids there as well. Voorhees dons a goalie mask and uses a machete as his choice weapon.

#2- Freddy Krueger (Nightmare on Elm Street):
Born in Feb. 1942 in Springfield, Ohio to a 16- year-old in a psychiatric institution, Krueger was raised in foster care system and returned to his hometown as an adult. He worked at a steam plant maintaining the boilers, where he makes his infamous knife-glove. Accused of pedophilia and killing children but not convicted, he was chased by some of the parents to the building where he would take his victims. They set the building on fire, with Krueger trapped inside. As his revenge, he begins to haunt his tormenters’ children in their sleep. He wears a striped green-and-red sweater, brown trousers, a brown fedora and his infamous knife-glove. His targets are children in his hometown, where he stalks them and eventually kills them through their dreams. It is enough to make a person never want to dream again.

#1- Michael Myers (Halloween):
This famed killer was born in Oct. 1957 in Haddonfield, Illinois. He had two sisters, one of which he killed as a child on Halloween night. He was placed in a psychiatric ward under the care of Dr. Loomis. He eventually escapes, and comes back to his hometown to terrorize his younger sister, Laurie Strode, who had by then been adopted into another family. His main targets are his family members, but he will kill anyone who gets in his way. Haddonfield is the main place for his killings, although while in recovery from a coma, he killed the hermit who was caring for him. Most murders take place on Hallowee at night. With the exception of the murder of his sister, Myers always wears a white hockey mask and a navy blue auto mechanic uniform, and his weapon of choice is a carving knife.
