Pizza showdown: After all is said and done...

So, you’re probably wondering who could possibly win overall. Who are we kidding? This was a clear sweep.

With an average score of 8.79, the best pizza in Ypsilanti is Hungry Howie’s.

Hungry Howie’s, which is based in Madison Heights, opened the doors to its first restaurant in 1973. The original location, which was converted from a 1,000 sq ft hamburger shop, was located on Telegraph Road in Taylor.

Between 1973 and 1982, founders James R. Hearn and Steven E. Jackson opened several more restaurants in the Metro Detroit/Ann Arbor areas. These restaurants enjoyed great success and encouraged the founders to begin franchising in 1983.

In 2005, they opened their 500th restaurant. Today, this Michigan original has 564 locations in 22 states and is securely in the top 10 of America’s largest pizza franchises.

One of the many features of Hungry Howie’s that has led to its great prosperity is its flavored crust. It’s also what helped it clench the win in our competition. How appropriate is it that their Ypsilanti location originated the delicious and buttery addition back in 1980.
