New contract pends approval

The Eastern Michigan University chapter of the American Association of University Professors voted overwhelmingly to approve a new three-year contract by a margin of 288-7, or 98 percent in consent.

The new contract includes a 2 percent salary increase for each year of the contract, changes in payment options for health care plans and increased aid for faculty research.

“Through this vote, the faculty has indicated that they strongly support the terms of the agreement,” EMU’s AAUP President Susan Moeller said. “The agreement contains many positive developments in the areas of faculty research and support and faculty members are pleased not only with these results, but also with how the contract was settled early and with the spirit of cooperation between the faculty and administration.”

“This can [lead to] a renewal of positive faculty [and] administrative cooperation that will have long-lasting benefits for the students, faculty and administration,” she said.

The new contract is still pending approval by EMU’s Board of Regents, who will vote on it at their regular Sept. 18 meeting.
