Students take the next step

Eastern Michigan University’s 2013 Spring Commencement was held April 28, at the Convocation Center, in two sessions.

The doors opened at 8 a.m. for the morning ceremony that included the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Technology. The afternoon ceremony at 2 p. m. included the College of Business, College of Education, and the College of Health and Human Services.

The day was cold and rainy, but the weather didn’t dampen the spirits of graduates feeling pride in their accomplishment and the friends made in the process.

“I really loved the experience of getting my master’s,” Archana Samaleti, who studied chemistry, said.

“It was really exciting and the advanced degree really prepared me to go out with flying colors. I’ll never forget my friends; they are forever.”

Others took pride in the fact that having an advanced degree would help them be more accomplished at their current jobs.

“I hope I can get promoted at my office now,” said Arumugam Shanmugasundaram, MBA.

Still others have more learning to do now that college has ended and are excited to be moving to the next phase of life.

“It has been an awesome and huge accomplishment and I’m going to be starting my residency, here, in Michigan,” said Master of Orthotics and Prosthetics, Angela Karavel.

Congratulations Eastern Michigan University Class of 2013!
