Snow Health Center offering various health services

The Snow Student Health Center offers a variety of health services to all students enrolled at Eastern Michigan University.

Students of EMU will find the Snow Health Center offers a variety of health services for both insured and non-insured students throughout the school year. The center provides professional health care services in areas such as preventive and health check-ups, illness care, gynecology services and mental health.

When it comes to staying healthy, regular check ups are a necessity. The Snow Health Center includes such services as complete health visits, blood pressure checks and immunizations. With cold and flu season approaching quickly, students can use the Snow Health Center to assure they won’t end up missing classes due to illnesses. In addition, tuberculosis skin tests and allergy injections are also available.

Treatment and care is also offered for students suffering from chronic aliments such as asthma and mental health care for depression and anxiety. One-time conditions including sprains, sore throats, flus and colds, urinary tract infections and stomach viruses can be treated with an appointment.

Women’s services provided are conducted by a professional staff of gynecologists and include annual pap exams, menstrual dysfunctions and treatments for sexually transmitted infections.
Women may also seek services for pregnancy and contraception.

The Snow Health Center also includes a full-service pharmacy right on campus for easy prescriptions that can include medications for treatments, preventative medicines and even maintenance prescriptions. Many tests including blood work can also be performed on campus in the laboratory.

Healthcare providers included on the staff consist of physicians, nurse practitioners, secretarial staff and specialized doctors. In addition, Snow Health Center has counselors for treatment of mental health concerns. Services are open to all students of EMU, and costs can be billed to private insurance companies, EMU student insurance or to a student’s Emich account for payment options.

Many of the physician staff also practices at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital located just off campus on North Huron Street.

Student insurance can also be purchased as well as supplement student insurance through Snow services. Insurance services are available at Snow Health Center on the second floor. The cost per student is $1,495 per school year and covers both sick and well appointments at Snow, including any specialist referrals off-campus. Insurance will include $10 co-pay for doctors visits and small co-pay for prescriptions.

Appointments can be made by calling the Snow Health Center at 734-487-1122 and often, an appointment can be made for the next day. Hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
