Eyrie sells unique gifts

If you’re like me you often have trouble when trying to find unique gifts for those hard-to-buy-for people in your life. Well what if there’s a gift shop right here in Ypsilanti that can help you with that problem?

The Eyrie gift shop, located at 9 E. Cross St. in historic Depot Town has a broad range of handmade and handcrafted items including soaps, candles, hand-thrown pottery, jewelry and art pieces. What makes these gifts even more special is that many of them are made by Michigan artisans, and the inventory is ever-changing.

The Eyrie also hosts events which are open to the public; the most recent event held on Saturday, Sept. 21 was an “Autumnal Equinox Open House.” The event was a way to kick off the fall season with apple cider, pumpkin and pecan deserts, and candles lit while the sun set.

Janette Rook, owner of The Eyrie, said “We plan to have quarterly events as the seasons change.”
Rook also features local artists for the seasonal open houses, which adds a comforting element for visitors as they shop. The next feature event in October will have local author Natalie Burg who will be reading from her book “Swedish Lessons: A Memoir.”

Stacy Ebron, Ann Arbor resident and self-proclaimed fan of The Eyrie, said the store “adds vibrancy to Depot Town,” and how the focus on products made by Michigan artists and the diversity of the items helps to contribute to the community and make the store unique.

Ypsilanti resident Peri Stone-Palmquist enjoys the “mix of practical and special occasion things,” and regularly buys a range of things from her laundry soap to greeting cards, and she likes the warm inviting environment the owner has created.
