Honors College to host open house

Eastern Michigan University’s Honors College will be hosting an open house Monday, Nov. 10, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Prospective students may attend to ask for information and learn about the various opportunities the Honors College offers.

Prospective applicants will have the chance to tour Starkweather Hall, meet Honors College staff and students, see Honors students’ research and better familiarize themselves with what to expect in the Honors College.

The open house will begin in Starkweather Hall at 4 p.m. with refreshments provided by Tower Inn, followed by a tour of undergraduate research in McKenny Hall at 4:45p.m.

Keynote speaker Lolita Cummings Carson, an EMU professor in the English Language and Literature Department, will be speaking on “The Value of a College Education” at 5:20 p.m.

“This is an opportunity for current Honors students to network and for new students to meet new people,” Honors College Graduate Assistant Taylor Lash said.

At the end of the open house, a drawing with multiple prizes will be held. The prizes will include Honors College T-shirts and three grand prizes of 1 credit hour scholarships for the 2015 winter semester at EMU, conditional upon entry into the Honors College.

Students with a 3.5 GPA or higher will have a chance to apply for the Honors College. The entrance essay requirement will be waived and the prospective students will receive an accelerated admission into the Honors College.

“This is a great opportunity for alumni and the prospective students to see what the Honors College has been up to,” Lash said.

Faculty, staff, and family members are welcome to attend the open house. For questions or additional details contact John Feldkamp at jfeldkam@emich.edu or call the Honors College at 734-487-0341.
