Santos wins coach of the year

Following EMU's fourth-place finish at the Mid-American Gymnastic Championship meet, Eastern Michigan coach Jay Santos was named MAC Coach of the Year.

Santos, wrapping up his first season as Eagles coach, improved the Eagles’ overall record from 6-9 in 2014 to 13-5 this season.

Santos coached the Eagles to their best in school history on Feb. 20 2015 against Western Michigan when they scored a 195.575.

Santos also coached the Eagles to their highest MAC Championship score of 195.075 since 2004.

It was the first time an Eastern Michigan coach has won the award since Steve Wilce won it in 1992.

Last year's winner was Kent State coach Brice Biggin who led the Flashes to the 2015 MAC Championship.
