Homecoming Week brings many festivities to campus

This week marks the start of October and as fall begins it brings us to one of our favorite times of the school year… Homecoming. Throughout the week, EMU will be hosting multiple events and activities to pump up our school spirit before the annual homecoming football game.

On Sunday at 4 p.m. the week began at Buell Hall Parking Lot with the Kick-Off Bash. The Kick-Off Bash included free inflatables, games and music.

This was also when the T-shirt Exchange began. Bring a gently used T-Shirt from another university and you can receive an EMU Homecoming T-Shirt all week long.

Jessica Randolph, a junior at EMU majoring in communications said her favorite thing about Homecoming Week is “Seeing the students get involved with their school.”

On Monday, Oct. 5, there will be a Homecoming Court Q&A in room 300 of the Student Center from 6:30-8 p.m. Students can stop by and ask EMU’s Homecoming Court questions on what makes them “TRUEMU.”

Homecoming from Yesteryear is a display that will be showing in Halle Library. This showcases all of EMU’s past homecomings. Students can take a selfie with the display and post it on a social media site using #EMUCODEGREEN. By sending in selfies students are eligible to win a prize.

The display will be available to enjoy through Wednesday, Oct. 7. On the last day of the display, there will be a random drawing for some lucky winners to obtain prizes.

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, there will also be a Code Green Campus Picnic. This will be located on the Student Center Patio at 12-1:30 p.m. The picnic will be giving out free food and refreshments.

A TRUEMU Block Party will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 on the Student Center Patio. Ypsilanti area businesses will be giving out roses, food samples, coupons, prizes and more. Following the Block Party will be the Pep Rally, happening in front of Big Bob’s Lake House at 8 p.m.

Saturday will also be jam-packed with tons of Homecoming festivities. Head over to AMP! Face Painting to decorate your face for the game. Then, Tailgate Town will be located across from the Convocation Center before the game from 12-2:45 p.m.

Finally, at 3:30 p.m., join us to watch the Homecoming football game against the Akron Zips. The fun does not have to end after the game either. Students can head over to Aubree's Pizzeria & Grill for a Kappa Phi Alpha and Friends post-game celebration.
