COE faculty vote no confidence in Board of Regents

In a symbolic vote, the faculty of Eastern Michigan University has voted that it has no confidence in the Board of Regents, according to an article by the Free Press. This was voted unanimously by the College of Education faculty.

The faculty did this in response to the last Regents meeting, when the Board voted to delay voting on whether or not to continue the university's involvement in the controversial EAA. The delay was done in the midst of a loud protest of students and faculty.

“The Board of regents, in the face of empirical evidence and stakeholder voices, has not adhered to the Code of Ethics pledge each member has taken when appointed to the board,” the resolution said. “As such, we, the members of the Department of Teacher Education, no longer have confidence in the Board's intent and actions to serve the best interest of Eastern Michigan University.”

The EAA, or Education Achievement Authority, was set up to help failing schools by putting them under state control.

The EMU Student Government has also voiced opposition to it. The EAA has caused the College of Education problems, as many school districts have boycotted COE graduates.
