Police Blotter, Dec. 14

Thursday, Dec. 10

  • A PS4 was stolen from a student's room in Putnam Hall sometime between 2:30 and 3:10 p.m. Thursday. One of the two doors to the room was left unlocked during that time. DPS is investigating the case.
  • A student reported being the victim of sexual assault at 10:30 p.m. Thursday. The student was the victim of nonconsensual sex in Munson Apartments on Dec. 3. The accused person is not an EMU student. DPS is pursuing charges against the suspect with the Washtenaw County prosecutor's office.

Friday, Dec. 11

  • DPS came across a man who was having trouble walking Friday night at the corner of Huron River Drive and Lowell. They determined that the man was drunk. At 12:24 a.m. the man, who wasn't an EMU student, was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
  • Student Housing called DPS to Phelps Hall for a party at 1:31 a.m. They found seven students who were consuming alcohol. One of them was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. This has been handed over to the Office of Student Conduct.
  • DPS came across a student with an unspecified amount of drugs. This student was cited for paraphernalia and this is also being sent to the Office of Student Conduct.
  • Housing staff called DPS for arson in Sellers Hall at 10:11 a.m., Friday. This arson turned out to be a "quarter sized" burn mark on the ceiling in the study room.
  • The Physical Plant reported that someone had broken a “No Smoking” sign at 12:47 p.m., Friday. This would have happened sometime between 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 10 and 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 11. DPS is reviewing camera footage.
  • A non-EMU student was given a trespassing notice at 4:05 p.m., Thursday. This non-EMU student was previously banned from campus.
  • A dispute between two roommates in Brown Apartments ended in a "mutual physical altercation" according to the EMU crime log. No charges are being filed for what could have been an assault and battery case. Student Housing and Student Conduct are now discussing the incident.
  • DPS pulled over a car for a traffic stop at 10 a.m. Thursday, at the intersection of Congress and Elm Street. The They found a mason jar of marijuana, which was sent to the lab for testing.

Saturday, Dec. 12

  • DPS got a call at 1:02 a.m. by "a person concerned for someone's welfare" because of a post on social media. Officers went to Buell Hall to find three students, two of which were drinking. This has been turned over to the Office of Student Conduct.
  • Two students got into a fist fight in front of the parking meters by Putnam Hall. A bystander waved down a passing DPS vehicle and pointed them to the fight. After breaking it up, they found out that this was over an unspecified disagreement the two had the previous day at the basketball court. One of the two students was injured with a cut lip and had been choked. They were released after an HVA ambulance checked them and determined hospitalization was unnecessary. Neither wants to press charges against the other.
  • An underage student admitted to drinking to DPS officers at 1:58 a.m., Saturday, outside of Walton Hall. DPS decided that the student was not intoxicated to the point of being in danger to themselves. They left and handed the case over to the Office of Student Conduct.
  • A laptop was stolen at 7:25 p.m., Saturday, at the Bowen Field House. The victim isn't affiliated with the university and did not use the wifi, making tracking the computer electronically more difficult, DPS said. They are reviewing security camera footage.
