Monday, March 21, 2016

  • A traffic violation on West Circle Drive led to a foot chase involving the Department of Public Safety and the two people inside the vehicle. DPS apprehended one of them, a non-student Ypsilanti Township resident and the other got away. Eventually, it was discovered that they fled because the car they were driving was stolen. There was no physical confrontation. A DPS spokesperson said that the arrested person got on the ground when DPS threatened to employ their tasers.
  • A student in Sill Hall confronted another over a disagreement about their property and tried to settle it at gunpoint. According to the EMU Crime Log the “subject [was] arrested for displaying a gun and stealing property from an acquaintance,” after it was reported at 10:35 p.m. The student was then arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail, where DPS is seeking charges with the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office. DPS says it has two witnesses in addition to the victim. The arrested student has been removed from the housing system.

Tuesday, March 22, 2016.

  • The Parking Department called DPS at 9:55 a.m. to report a fraudulent hangtag. The student, who attempted to alter an expired parking tag to make it look current, has been referred to Student Conduct.
  • Employees from the physical plant called DPS to the Rynearson Lot at 12:57 p.m. to report a number of kids aged 14 to 17 jumping on the hoods of cars. The juveniles were gone when DPS arrived.

Wednesday, March 23, 2016.

  • A student in the Village E called DPS at 1:42 p.m., to report that an unspecified amount of money had been taken from their wallet. This is believed to have happened sometime between 4:00 a.m. on March 20 and 9:30 p.m., March 21. DPS is still investigating.
  • An EMU student called DPS at 1:42 p.m. to report that their roommate took their car without permission at 8:00 p.m. on March 21. The victim says the car was parked in Mayhew Lot that night. DPS says the victim does not want to press charges, but the accused student still has to go before Student Conduct.
  • A car was pulled over at the corner of Huron River Drive and Superior Road at 3:45 p.m., for driving with expired plates. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer smelled and found marijuana. The driver was issued a citation.
