Billie Eilish displays her strong relationship with older brother Finneas in new music video

Check out the visual for this pop star's newest single "everything i wanted"

Just over a half a year after her debut album came out, popstar Billie Eilish released a new single titled “everything i wanted" on November 13. Close to two months later, in January of 2020, an unexpected official music video was posted on YouTube for the song.

The tune is about the artist seemingly having everything she ever wanted, but it not being how she expected it to be.

“I had a dream I got everything I wanted / not what you’d think / and if i’m being honest / it might have been a nightmare,” Eilish sings.

The song also talks about her older brother and producer Finneas, who helps her overcome her fears and strive as a musician.

“And you say, ‘As long as I'm here, no one can hurt you / Don't wanna lie here, but you can learn to / If I could change the way that you see yourself / You wouldn't wonder why you're here, they don't deserve you’”

The video starts with the following statement: “finneas is my brother and my best friend. no matter the circumstance, we always have, and always will be there for each other.”

Dedicating this song and video to her brother truly shows how important he is to her and how far she has come in her career because of him. While many artists, especially those of young age, tend to be selfish when it comes to their fame, this shows she is far from it.

The video, which is directed by the young star herself, consists of the two siblings in a car together, Billie in the driver’s seat and Finneas on the passenger side. This symbolizes their relationship as well, showing they got to the place they are today by working together.

“Pretty much that whole song is about me and Finneas' relationship as siblings. We started writing it because I literally had a dream that I killed myself and nobody cared and all of my best friends and people that I worked with basically came out in public and said, like, “Oh, we never liked her.” In the dream, the fans didn’t care. The internet shit on me for killing myself, all this stuff, and it really did mess me up,” Eilish stated during an interview with Annie Mac.

Eilish has talked previously about experiencing sleep paralysis as well as suicidal thoughts, and this song and music video exemplify both of those issues. I think she could have made the visuals more interesting and expressed her message in a more meaningful way, but the video is still beautifully done.

While this is lesser in comparison to some of her more unique music videos like “bury a friend,“ and “xanny,“ the scenes go along well with the tune’s emotional lyrics and message.

Fans of Billie Eilish should definitely check this video out and continue to support her throughout the growth she processes alongside her brother.

I would give this release 3.5 out of 5 Swoops.
