EMU opens Shake Smart in the Rec/IM, offering students healthy dining options

With healthy and affordable options, Shake Smart is a great place to get a post workout on-the-go meal.

Offering a multitude of healthy food options, Eastern Michigan University has just opened Shake Smart, located in the renovated Rec/IM building, beginning with a soft opening the week of Jan. 17.

Shake Smart is a company started by college students, for college students, with locations at universities all across the nation.

“Shake Smart is not your typical smoothie shop. Delicious, nutritious, and created by students, for students. Shake Smart is a functional blended drink and health food brand focused on wellness and on-the-go meals," EMU dining states.

While dine-on-campus options have slim pickings when it comes to healthy foods, Shake Smart’s menu consists of cold brew coffee, protein shakes, organic acai bowls, peanut butter banana sandwiches, and more. Additionally, dietary restricted options are offered, as most signature items can be made gluten-free, lactose-free, and vegan friendly.

Apart from being healthy, Shake Smart stays pretty affordable as well, with an average price point of just $5. For on-campus students with a meal plan, flex dollars are able to be used at this dine on-campus location too.

On Thursday Jan. 27, Shake Smart will be hosting a free regular size shake day from 10:30am - 5pm. As part of their grand opening and to encourage the community to check out the location, all regular size shakes will be completely free all day long!

Shake Smart is a perfect place for an on-the-go meal after getting a workout in. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to stop by EMU’s newest dining location.
