2 West Ypsi hosts stand-up comedy show in downtown Ypsilanti

Stand-up comedy is coming to downtown Ypsilanti, showcasing local comics and their best artistic talents on May 26.

Attendees can witness the “Ypsilanti Has A Skyline Stand-Up Comedy Show” at 2 West Ypsi, with the doors opening to the public at 7:30 p.m. and the show starting at 8 p.m.

“Some of the absolute best comedians in the region will be telling jokes,” Dan Turco, comedian, host and producer of the show, said. “Long term I'd like to see if we can bring in touring comics - but for now we're doing a 'Best of the Midwest' thing.”

Turco appreciates local comedy shows, such as this one, and how convenient they make having a good time.

“I think a big thing people don't always realize is that stand-up comedy isn't something you need to see on a streaming service or at some big theater on a 10 foot high stage. You can go to comedy shows right in your own town.”

The "Ypsilanti Has A Skyline Stand-Up Comedy Show” is new to Ypsilanti, joining the list of local activities the city has to offer.

“A few months ago, Dan came to me with an idea: what if we experimented with a comedy show series in Ypsilanti?” Jamie Taralunga, co-host of the show and owner of 2 West Ypsi, said. “I thought it was a great idea. So, we brainstormed how this would operate at 2 West.”

Turco and Taralunga hope comedy shows like these will encourage and uplift all comedians who perform at 2 West Ypsi.

“2 West Ypsi is a space where comedians can practice their craft and gain confidence,” Taralunga said. “To do so is quite beneficial.”

Along with their show on May 26, the public can also attend their upcoming Pride-themed show on June 6.

“Laughter can transcend boundaries, and those who master it can unify people,” Taralunga said. “The Ypsilanti Has A Skyline show is strengthening this unification between Ypsilanti and its surrounding areas. I love that the public can enjoy a night out in one of the many tasty Ypsi establishments and then head to 2 West Ypsi for an evening of laughter.”

Tickets for the show are $10 at the door.
