EMU running back Samson Evans has officially passed Gary Patton as Eastern Michigan University’s all-time career touchdown leader.
Evan's two-yard run in the second quarter on Saturday against Ball State University put his career mark at 32.
"I think it really kind of made it special, I think everything works out how it's supposed to," Samson said.
Patton, who represented the green-and-white from 1984 until 1987, rushed for a career 31 touchdowns for the then-called Hurons. Patton logged 3,497 career rushing yards and 5,553 all-purpose yards while playing for EMU.
Samson fumbled last week at Central Michigan falling short of the 32 mark to break the record.
"That fumble was supposed to happen, I was supposed to get that record breaking touchdown here on homecoming, so I think it was pretty special," Samson said.
Throughout his career at EMU, Evans has rushed for 1,968 yards on 434 attempts, averaging 58.4 yards a game. He ranks 14th in EMU history for total rushing yards.
His best season in Ypsilanti, Mich. came last year when Evans finished as a second team All-MAC selection. He rushed for 1,166 yards and 15 touchdowns.
In that same year, Evans also became third highest in EMU history for total rushing yards in a game, logging 258 rushing yards in EMU’s upset win over Arizona State University last season.
