Eastern Michigan University women’s head basketball coach Fred Castro has been relieved of his duties as head coach, effective immediately, the EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee announced Monday, Dec. 11.
In eight seasons at the helm of the women’s basketball program, Castro compiled an 80-129 overall record and a 40-84 record in Mid-American Conference play. He was hired to the position in May of 2016.
Before being hired at EMU, Castro spent three seasons at the University of Washington where he was the women’s basketball offensive coordinator.
EMU assistant coach Ke’Sha Blanton will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2023-24 season, according to EMU Athletics.
