EMU track and field remain instate for two meet weekend as several Eagles post personal records

The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs went on the road to the other two MAC schools in Michigan, the Jack Shaw Invite and the Chippewa Classic.

The Jack Shaw Invite was hosted by Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. and the Chippewa Classic was held at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

EMU athletes set outdoor personal records in 18 different instances throughout the two meets and also had 13 different first-place finishers in their respective events.

Jack Shaw Invite 

The Jack Shaw invite on the track side of things saw EMU compete in the women’s 100, 200, 400 hurdles, 800, and 1500m races. The men’s side only competed in the 100 and 200m dashes with Kyle Martin (Ypsilanti, Mich.) taking first place in both of those events.

First places finishers on the track were Alyson Davis (Summerfield, N.C.) in the 100 and 200m sprints, Tijana Japundzic (Belgrade, Serbia) in the 400m hurdles, and Destiney Rose (Boerne, Texas) in the 800m. 

On the field side of things, the Eagles saw first-place results from Natalie Buratczuk (Saint Charles, Ill.) in the high jump, and Elise Gregory (Crystal Lake, Ill.) on the Javelin Throw for the women, while the men had two first-place finishers: Ousman Kamara (Coatesville, Pa.) in the high jump and Jacob Niedzwiecki (Toledo, Ohio) on the pole vault. 

Athletes who set personal records in the Jack Shaw Invite include Nikol Antoniadi (Didimoticho, Greece), Noriyah Johnson (Chaina, Greece), Eva Orlich (San Jose, Costa Rica), Rose, Elena Wheeler (Plymouth, Mich.), Cara Weber (Union, Ky.), Nene Garner (Powell, Ohio), Buratczuk, Gregory and Cason Doolittle (Findlay, Ohio).

Chippewa Classic

The Chippewa Classic saw EMU compete in just field events. These included the men’s shot put, discus, and hammer throw. The women’s events included the shot put, discuss, hammer, and javelin throw.

Two athletes took first place in these events which included Miranda Caldwell (Plainfield, Ill.) in the discus and hammer throws, along with Ryan Johnson (Springboro, Ohio) taking first in the same respective events. 

Johnson and Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta) set personal bests for the Eagles in field events, Johnson and the discus and hammer throw, and McEachern in the discus.

EMU will send athletes to three different meets from April 19-20, including the Aggie Classic, Wake Forest Invitational, and LSU Alumni Gold.
