EMU Energy Center begins scheduled shutdown early for major campus buildings

In an email sent to the Eastern Michigan University community Saturday, the EMU Energy Center announced that a scheduled temporary shutdown would begin earlier that expected.

The shutdown was planned to start Sunday, May 5. The premature shutdown was attributed to unforeseen circumstances at the Energy Center, university officials said in the email. Operations are scheduled to resume Friday, May 10.

The work will stop all heat and hot water in affected buildings. The following buildings will continue to be fully operational:

  • Cornell Courts
  • The Village
  • The Towers
  • 601 West Forest Apartments
  • The Honors College
  • Department of Public Safety/DC-3 (Crossroads Marketplace)
  • Sculpture Studio
  • Central Stores
  • Emu House
  • Fletcher
  • Campus Wellness Center/IHA
  • West Athletic buildings

Questions can be directed to Director of Energy Center Operations Anthony Duty.
