Eastern Michigan baseball loses final game to Toledo, 6-2, drops series

Eastern Michigan’s baseball team looked to get back on track and continue its positive momentum after a critical home win to snap its five-game losing streak in the previous outing.

Unfortunately, that would not be the case.

The Eagles lost a 6-2 decision at Oestrike Stadium to lose their second straight Sunday afternoon matinee. They fell to 14-17 (9-9 MAC) on the campaign, while Toledo improved to 13-21 (7-11 MAC) with the win.

Tyler Kapa took the loss on this occasion. The senior pitched just over three innings and gave up four earned runs and seven hits.

Kapa did also record four strikeouts in his outing, holding the road team scoreless for the opening two innings before giving up two runs in the third and two in the fourth.

Eastern Michigan responded to the Rockets' drawing first blood with two runs of their own in the third inning—John Hale recorded a single and an RBI, while Cooper Vance reached home off a Logan Hugo groundout.

However, those would be the only two runs the green and white would produce in the entire game, only registering six hits as a team just a day after putting 13 runs on the scoreboard.

Other offensive standouts for the Eagles included Drew Jones and Cooper Vance, each putting up multi-hit games. The duo accounted for four of the six hits put up by the home squad. Vance has now recorded three straight multi-hit games and 10 on the season. The junior shortstop finished 2-of-3 at the plate.

Toledo added multiple insurance runs down the stretch in the fifth and seventh innings, respectively, to put the finishing touches on their series victory. The team posted 12 hits on the day.

Having lost five of their last six games, Eastern Michigan will travel to Albany for a non-conference series from April 17-19.

The Eagles will return to Ypsilanti the following week, April 22, for a Tuesday afternoon showdown against Youngstown State. Viewers can stream that game live on ESPN+.
