Eastern Michigan Vs. Northern Illinois

EMU football's Cole Snyder earns NFL shot as Jefferson signs with CFL's Roughriders

Eastern Michigan’s Justin Jefferson will be continuing his football career overseas.

The Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders announced on April 28 that they had signed the interior defensive lineman in their persistent efforts to bolster their roster with young talent.

Jefferson, a 2024 Burlsworth trophy nominee as one of the most outstanding players in college football, who began their playing days as a walk-on, played for the Eagles from 2021-24 and registered 49 games for the school.

The Chicago native put up his most impressive campaign during his junior year with 46 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. Jefferson followed that up in his final season with 36 total tackles and a career-high four sacks.

Standing at 5’11” and weighing 234 pounds, Jefferson is set to become a valuable rotational defensive line piece for the four-time Grey Cup champions.

Cole Snyder Invited to Detroit Lions Minicamp

Last year’s Eastern Michigan starting quarterback, Cole Snyder, became the first Eagle to receive an NFL minicamp invite following the recently completed 2025 NFL Draft, getting a chance to further his playing career with the Detroit Lions.

Snyder, who started all 12 games for the green and white in 2024, threw for 2,685 yards and 15 touchdowns last year, adding 329 yards and four scores on the ground.

The Lakewood, New York native becomes the 38th total player during Eagles’ head coach Chris Creighton’s tenure to be drafted, be signed to a team as an undrafted free agent, or receive a mini-camp invite.
