U of M New Health Center

New Michigan Medicine Ypsilanti Health Center opens in heart of downtown

The University of Michigan established its footprint in Ypsilanti with the opening of the Michigan Medicine Health Center at 220 W. Michigan Ave.

The opening kicked off May 22 with tours and a welcome program.

Formerly home to Eastern Michigan University’s College of Business, the 122,000-square-foot building was built in 1988, at a cost of $1.75 million, according to records in the university's archives. EMU's College of Business operated there from 1991 to 2020, when the university sold the building for $2.6 million. The College of Business then moved back to central campus.

Now featuring state-of-the-art equipment and patient spaces, the Ypsilanti Health Center will be more than three times the size of the health center’s former location. The center will house dozens of services, ranging from pediatrics and family medicine, to new and expanded specialties. A pharmacy and lab will also be in the building.

Parking will be available free for patients in the attached parking garage.

The center will officially open for patients June 2, 2025.
