PhotoVoice Exhibit on Gun Violence — May 3-31, 2025

Conducted by researchers from EMU and the University of Michigan, this joint project on gun violence in Asian American communities has been transformed into a photo exhibit on display at the Farmington Community Library on 12 Mile Road.

Called "Through Their Eyes: Understanding Factors Salient to Firearm Violence in Asian American Communities," the exhibit highlights the intersection of photography, personal storytelling and community-driven research.

Faculty members from EMU's Center for Health Innovation and Research and the University of Michigan's Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention created the exhibit and collected the data using a grant from the National Institutes of Health. The exhibit tells the story of what they found through photographs and experiences from project participants.

The exhibit includes a special reception scheduled for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 22. Advance registration is required to attend the reception. Those attending will be able to meet the faculty members behind the project, hear the stories behind the images and learn more about how firearm violence impacts communities. Light refreshments will be served.

The library is at 32737 W. 12 Mile Road in Farmington Hills. For more information, visit the Farmington Community Library website
