Men's Basketball vs. Akron Ohio 1

Eastern Michigan men’s basketball drops “Power 4” litmus test at Pittsburgh, 78-66

Despite 19 points from Carlos Hart, 15 points from Mohammad Habhab, and 13 points from Addison Patterson, the Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team fell short on the road to the University of Pittsburgh, 78-66.

The Eagles jumped out to a fast start, scoring the opening four points of the game, but the Panthers quickly quelled their early drought by embarking on a 27-6 run, a lead the home team would not relinquish the remainder of the contest.

Pittsburgh’s offensive output was fueled by efficient efforts from Cameron Cohren, posting a team high 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Omari Witherspoon added 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting as his running mate.

While the Atlantic Coast Conference foe struggled from downtown and at the line, only shooting 6-of-18 from three-point range and 12-of-23 from the free throw line, the Panthers still managed to drain 50% of their shots from the field and maintain a healthy advantage throughout the majority of the action.

Eastern Michigan’s offensive efforts were similarly balanced, with three players scoring in double figures while Jon Sanders II added nine points off the bench, shooting 6-for-6 from the free throw line in just 10 minutes of action.

Hart, the Valdosta State University transfer, and Habhab, the redshirt freshman formerly from Central Michigan University, once again paced the scoring for the Eagles as the pair did in the season opener against Georgia State University. Both players also added seven rebounds to the stat sheet, with Hart bagging an additional two steals.

Addison Patterson also nabbed an additional six rebounds as Eastern Michigan netted 36 rebounds as a team, only trailing Pittsburgh by two in that category.

The Eagles outscored the Panthers in the second half, 34-33, and managed to cut the lead down briefly to single digits in the second half before Pittsburgh managed to extend their margin out front and close out the contest victorious.

With the win, Pittsburgh remains unbeaten on the season, now boasting a 3-0 record, while Eastern Michigan drops to 1-1.

Next time, Eastern Michigan returns to the George Gervin GameAbove Center to face off against Indiana University Indianapolis on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. Viewers can catch all of the action live on ESPN+.
