Eastern Michigan vs Buffalo Women's Tennis

Eagle Sports Tips & Tales | Jan. 27- Feb. 2

Get ready, Eagle fans! From Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, 2026, the Eastern Michigan University athletic calendar is bursting with high-stakes rivalries, historical milestones and road-trip adventures. Whether heading to the Geroge Gervin GameAbove Center or tuning in from home, here are the tips and tales needed to navigate this exciting week of sports.

Tuesday, Jan. 27: Another battle of the Mid-American Conference

The week kicks off with men’s basketball heading to Mount Pleasant to take on Central Michigan University at 7 p.m.

  • The Tale: This rivalry is one of the oldest in program history, dating back to Feb. 9, 1906. While the overall record is neck-and-neck at 101 wins for EMU to 108 for CMU, the most legendary tale is from March 3, 1916, when Eastern secured a jaw-dropping 226-32 victory — the largest margin of victory in series history.
  • The Tip: Can't make the drive? Catch the action on ESPN+ or listen via WEMU/Varsity Network. Wear green and white with pride as the Eagles look to extend their recent success.

Wednesday, Jan. 28: Buffalo bound

Midweek, the spotlight shifts to the women’s basketball team as they travel to New York to face University at Buffalo at 6 p.m.

  • The Tale: The Eagles have a 16-19 all-time overall record against Buffalo, including a dominant 79-46 win back in 2005
  • The Tip: Keep an eye on the fourth quarter. This team has a reputation for erasing deficits, much like their comeback against Toledo last week.

Thursday, Jan. 29: Home floor heroics

The midweek magic continues as the women’s gymnastics team takes over Ypsilanti for a thrilling home meet against Wilberforce University at 6 p.m.

  • The Tale: Having faced Wilberforce only once in program history, the Eagles look to remain undefeated in the series. Keep an eye out for Abby Brushwood, who won the floor event when these two programs last met.
  • The Tip: Grab your tickets and head to the arena early to snag a prime floor-routine seat. If you can’t make it to the stands, you can still follow every twist and tumble by keeping the Live Stats page open on your phone or checking Eagle All-Access and ESPN+ for a live broadcast of the event.

Friday, Jan. 30 and Saturday, Jan. 31: A Track and Field takeover

Friday is a split-squad spectacular for Track and Field. The Eagles will compete simultaneously at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, and the SVSU Jet's Pizza Invitational in University Center, Michigan, on both Friday and Saturday.

  • The Tale: The program is currently riding a wave of momentum after earning 13 event wins at the Bob Parks Memorial. Furthermore, the team's spirit is at an all-time high following the news that alum Jasmine Jones was selected for the 2026 U.S. Olympic Bobsled Team.
  • The Tip: To watch the Eagles fly from afar, your best bet is to follow the Live Stats provided on the EMU Athletics website, which allows you to track every sprint and jump in real-time.

Saturday, Jan. 31: Super Saturday at home and away

Saturday is the busiest day of the week, featuring three different sports across two states.

Women’s basketball vs. Western Michigan (2 p.m.): This is a home game at the George Gervin GameAbove Center.

  • The Tale: EMU leads this long-standing series 53-44. They have a history of nail-biters, including a double-overtime win in 2016.
  • The Tip: Keep an eye on freshman Peyton Hill, who has been making waves, setting career highs in points and rebounds to power comeback wins.

Tennis vs. Oakland (1 p.m.): Head over to The Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti for some indoor tennis action.

  • The Tale: Historically, the Eagles have dominated Oakland University with a 15-3 record.
  • The Tip: If you can’t make it to The Chippewa Club you can follow the action through Live Stats available on the EMU Athletics website.

Men’s Basketball at UMass (6 p.m.): The men head to Amherst, Massachusetts.

  • The Tale: On Dec. 30, 2025, EMU secured its first-ever win against the University of Massachusetts with an 80-74 victory, breaking a three-game losing streak against the Minutemen.
  • The Tip: Since the team is traveling to Amherst, Massachusetts, the best way to support them is to tune in to ESPN+ or the WEMU/Varsity Network.

Sunday, Feb 1: Tennis in East Lansing

The week concludes with Tennis hitting the road to face Michigan State University at 2 p.m.

  • The Tale: History has a way of repeating itself. On this very day, Feb. 1, 2003, the Eagles stormed East Lansing and walked away with a commanding 5-2 victory over the Spartans. While Michigan State has taken the most recent matchups, that historic win serves as a reminder that the Eagles know exactly how to pull off an upset on MSU's home turf.
  • The Tip: To feel like you’re right there in the front row, keep the Live Stats dashboard open to follow the match set-by-set. Afterward, make sure to check the On-Demand Videos section on the EMU Athletics site to catch highlights of the most intense rallies of the afternoon.
