Ypsilanti City Council to meet in EMU Student Center, Jan. 20

This evening, Jan. 20, 2026, the Ypsilanti City Council meeting will be held in the Eastern Michigan University Student Center Ballroom instead of City Hall. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.

The meeting was moved to the EMU Student Center to allow more space for a larger turnout expected from the public, said Tracey Boudreau, Ypsilanti city clerk. A budget priority and goals session will occur before the public comment portion of the evening, she said.

The EMU Student Center is located at 900 Oakwood St., Ypsilanti. The ballroom is on the second floor of the building and can be accessed by stair or elevator. Tonight's meeting has a packed agenda, including a proposal to change the current City Council public comment rules.

Council members will also vote on various contract, project and permit recommendations, a resolution supporting a Mich. Senate bill to limit masking of immigration officials, and a resolution to condemn the police response to a Jan. 4 and 5, 2026, barricade incident on West Cross Street

The previous meeting agenda was amended to move a closed session to the February council meeting, to allow more time for public participation tonight, Boudreau said.

Residents can also join the meeting by Zoom, using the link posted on the City Council page on the City of Ypsilanti website.
