EMU Baseball adds pro expertise: Seth Caddell joins as assistant coach, recruiting coordinator

With the 2026 season rapidly approaching, Eastern Michigan University baseball is signaling a commitment to elite-level development. Interim Head Coach Trevor Beerman announced Feb. 2, 2026, the hiring of Seth Caddell as the new assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Caddell brings extensive experience from the professional ranks, having played at the Triple-A and Double-A levels. He recently transitioned from a successful playing career to a prosperous coaching career within the Cleveland Guardians organization.

"[Caddell] has a unique ability to connect with people," Interim Head Coach Beerman said in a statement. "He’s played and coached at the professional level, comes from winning programs, and knows how to communicate with players in a way that brings out their best".

In 2021, Caddell forwent his final year of college eligibility to sign with the Cleveland Guardians. Caddell spent three seasons as a player in the minor leagues, reaching as high as the Triple-A level where he played for the Columbus Clippers. He has since transitioned into a coaching role, developing over the last two years in the minors.

Caddell’s most recent tenure was served in Akron, Ohio, with the Double-A RubberDucks. There, Caddell focused on catchers as a development coach and was instrumental in the progression of several high-profile players. Under his guidance, four catchers earned Major League spring invites, including top-100 prospect Cooper IngleKody Huff, Cameron Barstad and Jacob Cozart. Caddell also aided in pitch and base running, the creation of scouting reports and personalized training plans.

Between 2018 and 2021, Cadell played baseball at East Carolina University. During his three seasons as a Pirate, he made three NCAA Regional appearances, two super regional appearances, and won an American Athletic Conference Championship. Caddell was a defensive anchor for his team all three seasons, earning a career .996 field percentage. In 2021, he earned a second-team all-region selection after a standout offensive season in which he recorded 14 home runs and 47 RBI.

Caddell not only excelled on the pitch but also in the classroom, earning AAC All-Academic Team selection three years in a row. He also earned a bachelor's degree in parks, recreation, and leisure studies in December of 2021.

Caddell will also be pursuing the role of recruiting coordinator at EMU. His time working with the Guardians provides him with a professional background in player evaluation.

Caddell's hiring comes after another significant change within the baseball program, which saw the resignation of former head coach Robbie Britt and the announcement of Beerman in November 2025 to the interim role.

"I am passionate about passing on the lessons, discipline, and values the game has given me to help shape the next generation on and off the field," Caddell said about his new role in a statement.

Caddell’s skill will be put to the test immediately with the opening series for the Eagles only 11 days away, scheduled for February 13-15 against the Little Rock Trojans.
