The Eastern Michigan University men’s golf team placed second at the All-American Intercollegiate, a tournament held in Humble, Texas. The tournament was hosted by the University of Houston and included 16 teams.
Round 1
Eastern Michigan ended in second place as the first round of play came to an end. The Eagles had a Round 1 score of 14 strokes over par, only trailing the University of Arkansas and their score of 10. The Eagles' Round 1 finish was led by Robby Turnbull and Charlie Box. Out of 80 participants, Turnbull finished the first round in fourth place, and Box was right behind, finishing in fifth.
The other Eagles also finished strong; every Eagle finished the round scoring within the top 25, giving the team a well-balanced start to the tournament.
Round 2
Round 2 was an even better overall performance for Eastern. The Eagles managed to drop from a Round 1 score of 14 strokes over par to a Round 2 score of just 9. Leo Mihaich led the Eagles in Round 2, finishing in sixth with a score of just 1-over par. Turnbull was not far behind as he finished in eighth, being just 2-over par. Freshman Joshua Hess ranked 15th in Round 2, scoring 3-over par, down from his Round 1 finish of 5-over. The Eagles once again finished in second as Tarleton State University won the round, being 8-over par, just one better than the Eagles.
Round 3
Round 3 was the best round for the Eagles as the team finished only seven strokes over par, their best score of the tournament. The improvement was overcome by massive refinements in the other teams, such as the University of Nebraska, Sam Houston State University and Texas State University, causing the Eagles to finish in seventh place in Round 3. Houston and Arkansas tied for the best score in Round 3, each being 3-under par.
After three rounds of competition, the Eagles found themselves in second place; the only team ahead of the Eagles was Arkansas, which, heading into the event, was ranked fourth nationally. Heading into the event, Arkansas was ranked fourth nationally.
Tournament successes
Mihaich and Turnbull tied for eighth place. Turnbull has had an outstanding freshman season so far. This was his second consecutive top 10 finish. Hess also has been making a name for himself; this invitational marked his third consecutive top 15 finish.
Looking ahead
The next stop for the Eastern Michigan men’s golf team will be Napa, California, as they will be competing in the Bridgestone Collegiate, an event hosted by Central Michigan University. The event will take place March 23-24, 2026.
