On March 20, 2026, the Eastern Michigan University women’s tennis team traveled to Perrysburg, Ohio, to take on the Bowling Green State University Falcons at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. The Falcons had the upper hand as they defeated the Eagles with a final score of 4-3, leaving the Eagles with an overall record of 9-8.
Doubles
The Eagles struggled during the doubles portion of play. While the Eagles kept scores close, the Falcons remained on top. Doubles match No. 2 gave Bowling Green the edge as they won 6-4. The Eagles fought hard in match No. 3, but it was not enough as they lost 7-5, with several late points swinging in favor of the Falcons to seal the match.
Match No. 1 remained in progress as the other two concluded, with both teams still battling in a tightly contested set. However, with Bowling Green already clinching the doubles point, it went unfinished. The Falcons entered singles play with a 1-0 advantage, giving them early momentum heading into the remainder of the match.
Singles
Eastern Michigan had a strong start to the singles portion of play. Cylova Zuleyka Hukmasabiyya tied it up for the Eagles with a win in the first completed singles match, helping reset the momentum. Bowling Green answered back strongly as they won the next two matches, bringing the current score to 3-1.
Sabrina Tolstova and Matilde Parreira fought back for the Eagles, each winning their matches. The Falcons managed to win match No. 6, clinching the win with the final score being 4-3. Despite the loss, Eastern showed resilience throughout the match, pushing Bowling Green to the very end.
This loss marks the end of a four-match win streak that the Eagles had over Bowling Green. Eastern Michigan still leads the all-time record, holding the advantage at 22-10.
Successes
Tolstova remains undefeated in Mid-American Conference competition after earning a hard-fought three-set win at the No. 5 position. After early-season struggles, Tolstova has put together an impressive run, showing consistency in recent matches.
The opening singles win for Hukmasabiyya marks back-to-back victories for her. The freshman is now 2-1 in conference play.
Looking ahead
Eastern Michigan will be looking to bounce back as conference play continues. The Eagles will be heading back home to Ypsilanti, Michigan, to take on the University of Toledo Rockets at the Chippewa Club on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
