Eastern Michigan Women’s golf traveled to Millbrae, California, to compete in the Silicon Valley Showcase, an event hosted by Santa Clara University. The Eagles came out on top, placing first against nine other teams.
Round 1
The first round for the Eagles was the best round of the entire tournament. The Eagles had a round one performance of five strokes under par. The only team to come close was the University of California, Berkeley, as they had a round one score of four strokes under par. Every other team shot over par.
The Eagles secured both the first and second place spots for the first round. Jasmine Leovao won the round with a score of four under par. Fellow Eagle Baiyok Sukterm trailed closely, finishing three under. Janae Leovao also performed well, one under par, tying for sixth place.
Round 2
Round two proved to be more challenging for the Eagles, as Eastern Michigan finished just nine over par as a team. Despite the tougher conditions, the Eagles remained near the top of the leaderboard and stayed in position heading into the final round.
Baiyok Sukterm aided the Eagles with her consistency, leading Eastern Michigan in the second round with another three-under-par performance. Her consistency across the first two rounds helped keep the Eagles in control of the tournament.
Scoring across the field increased in round two, with no teams shooting under par. Several teams struggled to match their first-round success, which allowed Eastern Michigan to hold its position among the top teams despite a slight dip in scoring.
Round 3
Eastern Michigan responded in the final round with another strong performance, securing the team title with a consistent finish. The Eagles stayed composed and capitalized on their early lead to close out the tournament.
The Eagles had a round three score of four over par, the best team score of the round. Once again, the University of California, Berkeley, trailed Eastern Michigan, finishing second in the round with a score of nine over par. No other team was able to match the Eagles’ closing performance.
Baiyok Sukterm was able to close out strong, finishing near the top of the leaderboard and helping anchor the Eagles’ final round. Overall, Sukterm finished as the number one player in the tournament.
The Eagles’ ability to post the lowest score of the final round sealed the victory and completed a wire-to-wire performance at the Silicon Valley Showcase.
Successes
Eastern Michigan’s success was fueled by strong individual performances throughout the tournament. Baiyok Sukterm led the way, finishing first overall with a score of three under par. Sukterm’s three under par was the fifth lowest score in program history.
Janae Leovao also had a strong showing, finishing tied for fourth place at two over par. She remained consistent across all three rounds and gave the Eagles another top-five finish. Jasmine Leovao contributed as well, tying for thirteenth place. Her opening round of four under par was one of the best rounds of the tournament and played a key role in Eastern Michigan’s early lead.
Eastern Michigan placed multiple golfers inside the top 20, a key factor in separating itself from the field and securing the team title by one stroke.
Looking ahead
The next stop for the Eastern Michigan women’s golf team will be Napa, California, as they will be competing at the Chevron Silverado Showdown, an event hosted by the University of Colorado-Boulder. The event is set to take place at the Silverado Country Club and Resort on April 6–8, 2026. Eastern Michigan will be one of 16 teams competing.
