The Eastern Michigan University lacrosse program reached a watershed moment this April, fueled by an individual performance that will be remembered for years to come. On April 7, 2026, the Mid-American Conference (MAC) named sophomore Emerson Henry as the Offensive Player of the Week. This recognition followed a dominant display that did more than just pad Henry’s personal statistics; it propelled the Eagles (8-5, 3-1 MAC) to their first-ever win over rival Central Michigan University (CMU) in program history.
A historic victory over Central Michigan
Henry’s impact on the 14-9 victory was absolute. She stuffed the stat sheet, recording a staggering seven points on four goals and three assists. This outing marked her first career double hat trick—defined as tallying at least three goals and three assists in a single contest. Such a feat is incredibly rare in the annals of EMU lacrosse, having been achieved only four times previously in the program's history. Beyond the scoring, Henry contributed across the field with two ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers, showcasing her versatility as an elite attacker.
Shattering records and personal bests
The win over the Chippewas was also a backdrop for significant career milestones. By finding the back of the net four times, Henry surpassed the 50-goal mark for her career, ending the match with 51 total goals in just two seasons with the Eagles. Her consistency has been a hallmark of the 2026 campaign; she has now scored at least one goal in eight consecutive games. Furthermore, her four goals against CMU tied for the 10th-highest single-game total against a MAC opponent in EMU history, while her three assists set a new career high, surpassing her previous best of two recorded on three separate occasions.
A growing legacy of excellence
This honor marks the first of Henry's career and establishes her as the 10th player in program history to receive a weekly MAC award. She is the second Eagle to earn offensive honors this season, joining Kelsea Dague, who was recognized in February. The program’s upward trajectory is evident in its growing trophy case; the Eagles have now collected 24 total weekly awards in program history, including six defensive and seven goalkeeper awards. Henry joins a 2026 "honor roll" that includes Dague, Karly Low (Defensive), and Maddy Porter, who has secured the Goalkeeper of the Week award four times this season.
The victory was also a team-wide landmark, as it allowed EMU to tie the program record for wins in a single season with eight. With this momentum, Henry and the Eagles are preparing for a massive MAC match-up on Saturday, April 11, against the University of Massachusetts, the current leader in the league standings. As the program enters uncharted territory with its first-ever meeting against UMass, Henry’s breakthrough performance serves as a clear signal that Eastern Michigan lacrosse has arrived as a legitimate contender in the conference.
