Excellence defined: 22 Eagles achieve All-MAC Academic status

On April 8, 2026, the Mid-American Conference (MAC) spotlighted the intersection of athletic prowess and academic dedication by announcing the 2025-26 indoor track and field honors. Eastern Michigan University (EMU) emerged as a prominent force in these rankings, with 22 student-athletes securing coveted spots on the Academic All-MAC list. This substantial representation serves as a powerful testament to the program's deeply ingrained culture of balancing elite Division I performance with rigorous academic discipline. The recognition was distributed across the department, with 12 members of the women’s team and 10 members of the men’s squad earning their place among the conference's elite.

To be eligible for this prestigious distinction, student-athletes must navigate a challenging set of requirements, including maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20. Additionally, they must have participated in at least 50% of the team's scheduled competitions throughout the indoor season. For the Eagles, these benchmarks provided a platform to showcase some of the most intellectually dedicated individuals on the Ypsilanti campus, aligning with the university's "Points of Pride" regarding student-athlete success.

Leading the men’s program with an extraordinary academic record was sophomore Leo Ignacio, who achieved a staggering 3.99 GPA while studying Mechanical Engineering. Ignacio was not alone in pursuing technically demanding and time-intensive degree paths; he was joined by a pair of high achievers in the field of Aviation Flight Technology. Cason Doolittle, a junior, maintained a 3.93 GPA, while sophomore Nathan Gaspersic followed closely with a 3.91 GPA in the same major. The men's academic roster also featured diverse specializations, including Ronan Codyre in Construction Management (3.52) and Mill Coleman III in Supply Chain Management (3.73). Further contributing to the men's success were Drew Graves in Finance (3.69), Nicholas Kline in Accounting (3.83), and Jake McEachern in Biology (3.62). Rounding out the men's honors were Michael Hawkins, a Marketing student (3.47), and Kian Wiles, who studies Exercise Science (3.32).

The women’s program proved to be equally formidable in the classroom, led by senior Aleah Johnson, who holds a near-perfect 3.98 GPA in the Nursing program. The academic diversity among the women's honorees reflects a broad range of interests and professional goals across the university. For instance, Alimot Alowonle maintained a 3.84 GPA in English, while Sophie Emin achieved a 3.86 GPA in Exercise Science. Other standout students included Nicolette Lewis, who carries a 3.67 GPA in Computer Info Systems, and Mia Biehl, who holds a 3.66 in Psychology. The list of recognized women also featured Natalie Buratczuk in Marketing (3.52), Lena Korte in Individualized Studies (3.54), and Megan Rybitski in Clinical Lab Science (3.46). Completing the women's representatives were Erika Van Loton in Biology (3.34), and three students in management-focused fields: Tijana Japundzic (3.23), Josephine Oloye (3.21), and Ashtan Winfrey (3.21).

On a broader scale, the MAC recognized a total of 261 student-athletes across all member schools for the 2025-26 indoor track and field season. While Kent State led the conference with 38 total honorees, EMU’s 22 representatives firmly established the Eagles as part of the academic elite within the MAC. This level of success highlights that for these student-athletes, the indoor season was about much more than just achieving personal bests on the track. It was about a comprehensive commitment to a championship standard in the library and the classroom, ensuring their futures extend well beyond the finish line.
