The Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team is currently in the midst of a historic season, and junior Baiyok Sukterm is right at the center of the surge. On April 3, 2026, the Mid-American Conference (MAC) announced that Sukterm had been named the Women's Golfer of the Week, marking her second such honor of the year. This latest award does more than just recognize a great weekend; it cements the 2025-26 squad’s place in the record books as the most decorated team in program history.
A masterclass in Millbrae
Sukterm’s recognition follows a dominant performance at the Silicon Valley Showcase in Millbrae, California, held on March 30-31. The Thailand native delivered a wire-to-wire masterclass, jumping out to a five-stroke lead after firing back-to-back rounds of 68. She maintained her composure through the final round to finish with a 3-over 210, securing her first NCAA Division I victory by a single stroke.
The statistics behind her win are staggering. Sukterm’s total of 210 represents the fifth-lowest 54-hole score in the history of EMU women’s golf. Furthermore, her opening rounds of 68 tied for the ninth-best single-round scores ever recorded by an Eagle. While this was her first win at the Division I level, it was her 13th collegiate title overall, adding to the six she won at the NJCAA level with Barton Community College and the six she secured at the NAIA level with Lindsey Wilson University.
Shattering program records
Sukterm is the 18th player in program history to earn medalist honors, but she is part of a much larger collective success story. Her award was the eighth MAC Golfer of the Week honor for the Eagles this season, shattering the previous program record of five awards in a single year—a feat that had stood since the 2012-13 season.
This year’s team also reached a new milestone by becoming the first in EMU history to have three different players earn multiple weekly awards in the same season. Sukterm joined teammates Janae Leovao and Jasmine Leovao, both of whom have been honored three times each during this record-breaking campaign.
Chasing the Championship
The victory in California was a double win for the Eagles, as the team also secured the tournament title. This marked the team’s third title of the season, tying for the second-highest total in program history and leaving them just one win shy of the all-time school record set in 2007-08.
With the regular season now concluded, the Eagles have turned their full attention to the MAC Championships, which will be held from April 26-28 at the prestigious Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. Buoyed by Sukterm’s elite play and the GameAbove Golf Performance Center’s top-tier facilities, the team is seeking its first-ever MAC title and the automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals that comes with it. For Sukterm and the Eagles, the record-breaking is far from over.
