After decades of the classic red, white and blue "I Voted" stickers at the polls, some Michiganders have found pride in alternative designs.
The first ever "I Voted" sticker contest held in Michigan took place in 2024. The people of Michigan had the opportunity to create their own designs for an "I Voted" sticker, vote on which ones they liked the most and receive the winning stickers after voting in the November 2024 election.
Over 480 people submitted entries during 2024 and over 57,000 people voted for their favorite designs.

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced in March of 2026 that the "I Voted" sticker contest will return for the November 2026 election. For the second time, Michiganders will have the chance to create their dream "I Voted" sticker, have people vote for their design and have a chance to be selected as one of the upcoming election's "I Voted" stickers.
There are three different categories that participants can choose to enter the contest: elementary school and middle school (grades K-8), high school (grades 9-12) and general entry (open to Michigan residents of all ages). Once a participant chooses a category, they may submit one design.
According to the Michigan Department of State designs must be nonpartisan, completed on an official entry form available at Michigan.gov/IVotedSticker and must include the phrase “I Voted.” Artwork must be original, not AI-generated, and must not contain copyrighted or trademarked designs.
From the beginning of March until May 1, 2026, Michiganders were able to submit their designs. By the time entries closed, the Michigan Collegiate Student Advisory Task Force had to narrow the submissions down to 25 semifinalists in each category, a total of 75 designs. This year's designs include classic Michigan symbols like the cherry blossom or robins, Michigan views like the Mackinac Bridge or one of the many lighthouses, and even fun, colorful and sometimes silly designs.
Starting June 1, 2026, the public will be able to vote for their favorites online. Michiganders are encouraged to vote for three designs in each category. Michiganders can visit the Michigan Department of State's website to vote until June 30, 2026.
The winners will be announced over the summer and will receive special recognition from the Michigan Department of State. The winning stickers will be available for election clerks to order for the November 2026 election.
