Washtenaw County has expanded cooling center hours as extreme heat watch remains in effect through Thursday, July 2.
The Towner Human Services Building atrium, located 555 Towner S in Ypsilanti, will be open Wednesday, July 1 from 8:30 a.m. until midnight to provide residents with a place to cool off and stay hydrated. Visitors should enter through the north entrance off Corner Street near the courtyard and playground.
Additional cooling sites will be open through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., including the Learning Resource Center (4135 Washtenaw Ave, Ann Arbor), and the Administration Building (200 N. Main St, Ann Arbor), and the Towner Human Services Building atrium on Thursday.
The Delonis Center will also activate its weather amnesty policy, opening additional space for daytime and evening cooling whenever the head index reaches 90 degrees or higher.
The Washtenaw County Health Department urges residents to monitor their symptoms and take appropriate action. Signs of heat exhaustion include dizziness, thirst, excessive sweating, and nausea. If you have symptoms of heat exhaustion, you should act fast by drinking water and moving to a cooler place like a cooling center. If you or someone you know is experiencing confusion, dizziness, unconsciousness, or suddenly stop sweating, you may be suffering from a heat stroke and should call 911 immediately.
